All these lime trees are coppiced except for one young maiden tree. All these trees were at the same stage of initial bud burst on 24 April 2012.
These ten trees may represent a native lowland population of a tree once widespread across southern half of Britain, at the present day northern limit for this species.
Other coppiced trees here include ash, silver birch, alder. pedunculate oak and sycamore.
Many trees have been wind blown but large numbers of young ramets spring up wherever the lime trees touch ground. |
